Objectives
- Elicit thorough and pertinent patient histories.
- Conduct complete physical exams.
- Write pertinent notes in the chart on the team's patients (H and Ps, operative notes, postoperative checks, daily progress notes)
- Interpret common radiological and laboratory data.
- Formulate a differential diagnosis and treatment plan.
- Understand surgical decision making, including the timing and need for an operation and be able to communicate this to others (patient education, informed consent).
- Read about common surgical problems and principles.
- Learn basic surgical skills.
- Understand operative technique, surgical anatomy and pathology.
- Demonstrate professional behavior (honesty, responsibility, respect to patients and colleagues, commitment and enthusiasm towards learning).
