The learning experience is highly dependent upon the teaching skill of the educator, both in individual and group settings. The Department has invested significant resources in helping our residents and attendings become better teachers, including:

1. Developing clear roles and expectations for residents and attendings to help guide their interactions with students in the OR, on rounds, and in formal teaching conferences.
2. Providing regular feedback to residents and faculty on their teaching skills, as assessed by students in
   their end of clerkship evaluations and by residents in their monthly evaluations.
   At the end of each year, the department awards a teaching award to a resident at each level based on feedback provided by the students via the end of clerkship evaluations.
