How many positions does your program have?
There are 9 categorical and 14 preliminary positions.
When are your interview dates?
Interview dates are held on December 3rd and January 7th, 2009; and also on January 14th, 2010.
When do you begin reviewing appications?
We begin reviewing applications on Novermber 1st when the dean's letters are released. This allows us to review the applicant's packet at one time.
When does your program start?
The offical start date is July 1, 2010.
In addition to the general orientation sessions from NYU and Bellevue for all new house staff, there is also an optional Department of Surgery orientation. The Department orientation is held during the week prior to the begining of the academic year, starting approximately on June 25, 2010. The orientation sessions are designed to introduce the incoming interns to the workings of the Department of Surgery, to get them better acquainted with the faculty and house staff, as well as help them get prepared for the first days of clinical duties.
How many letters of recommendation are needed?
In addition to the Dean's letter, 2 letters of recommendation from faculty members must be submitted.
Do you accept foreign medical graduates?
Yes.
Do FMGs need to have clinical experience in the U.S.?
U.S. Clinical experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
Do you sponsor any visas?
Yes, we sponsor H-1B and J1 viasas.
Do I need to be ECFMG certified prior to applying to your program?
You do not need to be ECFMG certified prior to applying to our program; however you do need to be ECFMG certified prior to being offered an interview to our program.
How do I apply for your Residency Program?
All applications are only accepted through ERAS.
When do you begin to download applications?
October, 1st 2009.
What is your deadline?
November 14, 2009.
Are house staff required to do research?
House staff are not required, but are strongly encouraged to do research. The Resident Research Committee mentors residents from their first year to help guide and develop their research interests and facilitate both clinical and basic science research opportunities.
Do you offer pre-match?
Our program does not offer a pre-match. All positions are offered through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
What is the pass rate for the IM boards?
Greater than 90% for each of the past 10 years.
Do you have a cut off year since graduation from medical school?
Our program does not have a cut off year since graduation from medical school.
What are your minimum scores for USMLE, Step 1 & 2?
We do not have a minimum USMLE score requirement. However, our program is highly competitive and the average score of our applicants is usually around 230. The USMLE Step 2 scores are not required at the time of the application process, but they must be submitted once you are selected into the program.
When will I know if i am selected for an interview?
Applicants who are selected for an interview will be notified via ERAS no later than November 15th, 2009. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will also be notified via ERAS no later than November 30th, 2009.
Is there subsidized housing?
The school does not offer subsidized housing. However, the Off Campus Housing Assistance Program (OCHAP) office does provide help in apartment searches. The OCHAP office can be contacted at (212) 263-3860.
