FACULTY MEETING: The Department faculty meeting is TODAY, Monday, December 1, 2008 in Coles 101 at 5pm. All surgical faculty must attend.

RESIDENCY RECRUITMENT: Just a reminder that the first residency recruitment day will be this Thursday, December 4. All faculty and residents are encouraged to attend the welcome presentation from 7-7:45 am, followed by the M&M conference from 7:45-8:45 am, in Frank Spencer M&M Conference Room at Bellevue. Also please note that, so that the presentation will not be disrupted, faculty and residents who are not in attendance at the start of the welcome presentation will be asked not to enter M&M Conference Room while the session is in progress from 7-7:45 am. All faculty and residents also are encouraged to attend the lunch from 1-2:30 pm in the Faculty Dining Room at NYU.

DEPARTMENT HOLIDAY PARTY: Due to unforeseen conflict and also recruitment day, the Department's 2008 Holiday party will now be held on Monday, December 22nd, 6:30- 10 pm at the Twenty Four Fifth, 5th avenue between 9th and 10th streets. GRAND ROUNDS: The next Department of Surgery Grand Rounds will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 7:30am in Alumni Hall A. Dr. Ronald DeMatteo, Vice Chair in the Department of Surgery and Division Chief of General Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center will present on "Molecular and Surgical Therapy of GIST." All surgical faculty and resident must attend.

PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Keith Heller gave Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Grand Rounds at UMDNJ on November 26, 2008. The topic was "Surgical Management of Hyperparathyroidism".

Dr. Thomas Maldonado presented at the Mexican National Vascular Congress 2 weeks ago: "Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: Zenith 5 year data."

Dr. Maldonado also published "Incidence and outcome of filter occlusion during carotid artery stent procedure." Ann Vasc Surg. 2008 Nov; 22(6):756-61. Epub 2008 Sep 21.

Dr. Umut Sarpel had a paper published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology on November 20th entitled "Does Anatomic Versus Nonanatomic Resection Affect Recurrence and Survival in Patients Undergoing Surgery for Colorectal Liver Metastasis?" Sarpel U, Bonavia AS, Grucela A, Roayaie S, Schwartz ME, Labow DM.
