GRAND ROUNDS: The next Department of Surgery Grand Rounds will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 7:30am in Alumni Hall A. Dr. John Kirby, Director of Wound Healing program and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis will present on "Necrotizing Fasciitis in Acute Wound Care." All surgical faculty and resident must attend.

FACULTY MEETING: The next Department faculty meeting will be on Monday, December 1, 2008 in Coles 101 at 5pm. All surgical faculty must attend. Please mark your calendars with this date and time.

DATE CHANGE- DEPARTMENT HOLIDAY PARTY: Due to unforeseen conflict and also recruitment day, the Department's 2008 Holiday party will now be held on Monday, December 22nd, 6:30- 10 pm at the Twenty Four Fifth, 5th avenue between 9th and 10th streets. PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Keith Heller was a member of the faculty of a course at the Harvard Medical School entitled "Surgery of the Thyroid and Parathyroid". He spoke on "Persistent Elevation of PTH following Parathyroidectomy."

The following Vascular Surgery faculty presented at the 3rd Annual Symposium-Vascular Disease in Primary Care at New York Hospital Queens, Oct 21st, 2008:
Frank J Veith, MD
"How do NASCET and other landmark trials relate to the treatment of carotid stenosis in 2008: What is the basis for carotid stenting and the role for medical treatment?"

Mark A Adelman, MD
"Thoracic aortic aneurysms: Fundamentals and endovascular repair."

Neal S Cayne, MD
"Abdominal aortic aneurysms: Screening and repair: Where are we with endovascular treatment?"

Dr. Cayne also gave a talk this month at the Delaware Valley Vascular Society on "Popliteal Artery Aneurysms: An evolution in Management"

Dr. Cayne published a paper last month in Perspectives in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery entitled, "Hemodynamic changes associated with carotid artery interventions."

Dr. Phoung Nguyen was a presenter this past week at the American Society of Plastic Surgery conference in Chicago, IL, Nov. 1-5
Poster: "Tissue-Engineered Scaffolds for Alveolar Bone Regeneration in a Gingivoperiosteoplasty Model." P.D. Nguyen, C.D. Lin, A.C. Allori, R.J. Allen., J.P. Levine, P.B. Saadeh, S.M. Warren

Dr. Nguyen was also a co-author on presentation "AMD 3100 improves diabetic wound healing through augmented vasculogenesis." R.J. Allen, C.D. Lin, P.D. Nguyen, J.P. Levine, P.B. Saadeh, S.M. Warren
Drs. Daniel Ceradini and Jamie Levine published a paper entitled "Breast Cancer Reconstruction: More Than Skin Deep" in this month's issue of Primary Psychiatry, the largest peer reviewed psychiatric journal in the nation.
