GRAND ROUNDS: The next Department of Surgery Grand Rounds will be held this Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 7:30am in Alumni Hall A. Dr. John Kirby, Director of Wound Healing program and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis will present on "Necrotizing Fasciitis in Acute Wound Care." All surgical faculty and resident must attend.

MONTHLY MEDICAL SURGICAL CONFERENCE- The monthly combined Medical Surgical Conference will occur this Thursday, November 20th, at 5pm in the Farber Auditorium of the Bellevue Lobby. The discussion will be "Cardiac Risk Stratification for Non-Cardiac Surgery". All faculty, residents and students are urged to attend. Refreshments begin at 4:30pm.

FACULTY MEETING: The next Department faculty meeting will be on Monday, December 1, 2008 in Coles 101 at 5pm. All surgical faculty must attend.

DEPARTMENT HOLIDAY PARTY: Due to unforeseen conflict and also recruitment day, the Department's 2008 Holiday party will now be held on Monday, December 22nd, 6:30- 10 pm at the Twenty Four Fifth, 5th avenue between 9th and 10th streets. CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Jamie Levine and Dr. Phuong Nguyen who received funding for the Empire Clinical Investigator Research Program Grant (ECRIP) for "Breast reconstruction in a university-based public hospital: a prospective analysis of patient-reported outcomes". The grant is for $150,000 over two years.

PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Lewis Teperman gave an invited talk at the TRIO Long Island Chapter Meeting on September 10, 2008, titled "Transplant Medications & Complications."

Dr. Teperman also gave an invited talk at the TRIO Manhattan Chapter Meeting on September 16, 2008, titled, "Your Donor & You."

Dr. Alex Stone gave a lecture on "Adrenal Surgery" at the 43rd Annual Intensive Review for the American Board of Surgery Recertification Exam on November 11, 2008 at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel in New York City.

Dr. George Miller gave a talk last week at the NYU Department of Cell Biology Faculty Seminar entitled "Dendritic cells and the control of immunity in the cirrhotic liver."

Carolyn Seib, a fourth year NYU Medical Student, presented "Characteristics of Malpractice Claims Against a Department of Surgery - A Seven Year Experience" at the New York Surgical Society on November 12, 2008. Co-authors are Russell S. Berman, H. Leon Pachter and Mark S. Hochberg.
