FACULTY MEETING: The next Department faculty meeting will be on Monday, December 1, 2008 in Coles 101 at 5pm. All surgical faculty must attend.

CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Ronald Simon who was awarded the NY State Trauma Physician of Distinction Award for 2008 at the STAC (State Trauma Advisory Committee) meeting in Albany.

DEPARTMENT HOLIDAY PARTY: Due to unforeseen conflict and also recruitment day, the Department's 2008 Holiday party will now be held on Monday, December 22nd, 6:30- 10pm at the Twenty Four Fifth, 5th avenue between 9th and 10th streets. GRAND ROUNDS: The next Department of Surgery Grand Rounds will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 7:30am in Alumni Hall A. Dr. Ronald DeMatteo, Vice Chair in the Department of Surgery and Division Chief of General Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center will present on "Molecular and Surgical Therapy of GIST." All surgical faculty and resident must attend.

PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:

Dr. Laki Rousou was first author on a paper in the Nov issue of the American Journal of Surgery entitled, "Troponin I after cardiac surgery and its implications on myocardial protection, outcomes, and cost." Rousou LJ, Crittenden MD, Taylor KB, Healey BS, Gibson S, Thatte HS, Haime M, Khuri SF.
