MONTHLY MEDICAL SURGICAL CONFERENCE - The monthly Medical-Surgical Conference will resume this Thursday, September 25th at 5:00pm in the Farber Auditorium in the Bellevue Lobby. Parathyroid disease will be discussed. All faculty, residents and students are urged to attend. Refreshments begin at 4:30pm.

IN THE NEWS: Dr. Ren's interview with the "Dr. G Medical Examiner Show" will be airing on September 29th at 9:00 pm on the Discovery Health Channel. The topic is "Tummy tuck and Obesity".

CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Kepal Patel who was selected to receive a grant from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) - National Cancer Institute (NCI) - European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) for the Diagnostic Development Tutorial: From Hypothesis to Product. This highly competitive grant was awarded to 10 individuals from the US and 5 from Europe.

PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Kenneth Rifkind had an abstract in the Surgical Forum Abstracts of the American College of Surgeons entitled "Simulation as an educational tool to assess response time in the management of an airway emergency."

Dr. Evan Nadler attended the inaugural Pediatric Disaster and Emergency Services Summit sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and gave a lecture entitled "Lessons Learned from 9/11/01: New York Trauma Centers."

Dr. Kepal Patel was invited to give Surgery Grand Rounds last Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA. His topic was "The Current Management of Thyroid Cancer."

Dr. Mikel Sadek presented at the Eastern Vascular Society 22nd Annual Meeting, September 18-20, 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts. The talk was on "Safety and Efficacy of Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting for Radiation-Associated Carotid Artery Stenosis: Analysis of Restenosis and Embolic Potential."
