CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. George Miller who was a recipient of the Liver Scholar Award co-sponsored by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) and the American Liver Foundation (ALF) for $150,000/3 years.
GRAND ROUNDS: The next Surgery Grand Rounds will be at the Frank C. Spencer lecture on Wednesday April 29, 2009 at 7:30 AM in Schwartz Lecture Hall E. Dr. L.D. Britt, Brickhouse Professor and Chairman of Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School will present on "Graduate Medical Education in Surgery: One shoe does not fit all." All Surgery Faculty and Residents are strongly encouraged to attend.
PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
The Association of International Vascular Surgeons (AIVS) held their annual meeting from March 7-14 in Jackson, WY. Dr. Mark Adelman as the United States National Representative, organized and led the meeting, which was attended by 160 people, including 90 vascular surgeons from more than 15 countries around the world. Dr. Adelman also moderated and presented the following:
- Short saphenous vein radiofrequency ablation: is there an increased risk of DVT?
- Intermittent foot claudication with active dorsiflexion: the seminal case of dorsalis pedis artery entrapment.
- Medical Rescue in New York, 9/11 and Beyond.
Dr. Todd Berland attended and participated in the Finlandia Prize Session, presenting: "Intraoperative gamma probe localization of the ureters: A novel concept."
