RESIDENCY RECRUITMENT: Just a reminder that the forth and last residency recruitment day will be this Thursday, January 15th. All faculty and residents are encouraged to attend the welcome presentation from 7-7:45 am, followed by the M&M conference from 7:45-8:45 am, in Frank Spencer M&M Conference Room at Bellevue. Also please note that, so that the presentation will not be disrupted, faculty and residents who are not in attendance at the start of the welcome presentation will be asked not to enter M&M Conference Room while the session is in progress from 7-7:45 am. All faculty and residents also are encouraged to attend the lunch from 1-2:30 pm in the Faculty Dining Room at NYU.
GRAND ROUNDS: The next Surgery Grand Rounds lecture will be on Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 7:30 AM in Alumni Hall A. Dr. Charles B. Rosen, Associate Professor of Surgery and Surgical Director for the Mayo Clinic Rochester Liver Transplant Program will speak on "Neoadjuvant therapy and liver transplantation for unresectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma - a new paradigm for hepatobiliary malignancy."
TRAUMA REGIONAL PAPER COMPETITION EVENT: The annual American college of surgeons committee on trauma regional resident paper competition was hosted at Bellevue on 12/11/08. Guest speaker was Thomas Scalea, MD from Maryland Shock Trauma. Not only did Linda Dultz present a paper there, but she came in 2nd place and her paper "Emergency Surgery: The new era in trauma, but is it a financially sustainable model?" has been submitted to represent the region at the national COT meeting in Chicago.
PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Marco Melis had a publication in the Journal of Surgical Oncology entitled "Management of positive margin following resection of desmoid tumors." Journal of Surgical Oncology 2008; 98: 594-602. Melis M, Zager JS, Sondak VK.
Dr. Kepal Patel had a book chapter published:

Dr. David Hirsch had two articles that were published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:
1) Analysis of Microvascular Free Flaps for Reconstruction of Advanced Mandibular Osteoradionecrosis: A Retrospective Cohort Study.
2) Minimizing Microstomia while Maximizing Esthetics in the Reconstruction of Acquired Lip Defects: The Evolution of the Bilateral Paramedian Cross-Lip Flap.
