SUMMER STUDENT RESEARCH DAY - The summer surgical students (rising second year students) will be formally presenting their summer research projects this Thursday, July 30th at 1pm in the M&M Room at Bellevue. Their preceptors, Drs. Keith Heller, Kepal Patel, George Miller and Umut Sarpel, encourage all faculty and department members to attend. Please contact Dr. Mark Hochberg if you have any questions.
MANDATORY CODE OF CONDUCT & HIPAA TRAINING - It is mandatory for all faculty members, officers, full-and part-time employees, students, and volunteers to complete this training by this Friday, July 31, 2009.The two-part, on-line session consists of:
Code of Conduct (10-15 minute "open book" quiz on the Code)
HIPAA Awareness (24 minute refresher on HIPAA Privacy and Security)

GRAND ROUNDS: The first Department of Surgery Grand Rounds for the new academic year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th at 7:30am in Schwartz Lecture Hall E. Dr. Richard Karl, Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Surgery, Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida will present on "What can the Operating Room learn from the Cockpit." All surgical faculty and residents are strongly encouraged to attend. Please mark your calendars of this date and time.

Dr. Tom Diflo gave a talk at the monthly LOLA (Latino Organization for Liver Awareness) support group meeting two weeks ago on "Advances in hepatitis C, Hepatocellular cancer and Immunosuppression."
Dr. Diflo was also quoted on the front page of Metro newspaper on Friday, July 24th, commenting on the arrest of the organ trafficker in Brooklyn.
