GRAND ROUNDS: The next grand rounds will be a Special Grand Rounds for the graduating chief residents on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 7:30 AM in Alumni Hall Classroom A. Dr. Daniel F. Roses, Jules Leonard Whitehill Professor of Surgery and Oncology will present on ‘Billroth and Brahms and the Rises of Modern Surgery". All Surgery Faculty and Residents are strongly encouraged to attend. Please mark your calendars as it is a Tuesday for this special Grand Rounds. The divisional conferences on June 16th should be cancelled so that all faculty and residents can attend the Grand Rounds. Also the OR has been notified to start late that morning for the Department.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the faculty and staff in the Division of Bariatric Surgery which was awarded the Healthgrades 2009/2010 Bariatric Surgery Specialty Excellence Award.
END OF YEAR PARTY: The end of the year party for our 2009 graduating Chief Residents and Fellows will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at the Tribeca Rooftop located at 2 Desbrosses Street (between Hudson & Greenwich Street). Faculty and residents should RSVP to Tracy via email at Tracy.Henry@nyumc.org or via phone at 263-2225 ASAP. The party will be from 7-11pm.
CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Tejas Shah and Dr. Todd Berland who won grant competitions of $5,000 at the NY Society for Vascular Surgery meeting on 5/27/09.
Tejas Shah (basic science) "Implanting mesenchymal cells into AAA vessel walls to recreate and reinforce fractured and altered medial layer of the aortic wall"
Todd Berland (clinical) "Randomized trial to evaluate endothermal venous ablation outcomes with and without postoperative elastic compression."
PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Mary Ann Hopkins gave grand rounds at the MGH in Boston last week. The talk was titled "Doctors Without Borders: a surgeon's experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo."
Dr. George Miller published the following paper in Journal of Experimental and Clinical Cancer Research: "Genome wide analysis and clinical correlation of chromosomal and transcriptional mutations in cancers of the biliary tract."
