CLINICAL QUALITY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM: Dr. Manish Parikh was nominated by Drs. Grossman and Press and selected to become a fellow for the Clinical Quality Fellowship Program (CQFP), sponsored by the Greater New York Hospital Association and the United Hospital Fund, which is designed to develop a cadre of leaders, beginning with physicians, to promote quality improvement activities throughout the region's hospitals. As part of this 15-month program, Dr. Parikh is required to complete a Quality Improvement Capstone Initiative with an interdisciplinary team of clinicians. The project he will be leading is "Implementation of Clinical Pathway and Dedicated OR Teams and Clinical Pathways for Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy" at Bellevue Hospital.
CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Anathea Powell who was a recipient of the 2009 AMA Foundation Leadership Award. The AMA Foundation honored 15 medical students, 10 residents, and 5 early career physicians with the award at its annual Excellence in Medicine Awards ceremony on March 9 in Washington D.C. Presented in association with Pfizer, Inc, recipients of the award are recognized for demonstrating outstanding non-clinical leadership skills in advocacy, community service and education.

Dr. Tom Diflo gave a talk on "Transplant Tourism" to the Bioethical Issues Committee of the New York Bar Association on 3/23/09.
Dr. Ron Simon gave Grand rounds for the Department of Emergency Medicine at LIJ Medical Center on compartment syndrome on 3/18/09.
Dr. Tomer Avraham presented two posters at the Society for Surgical Oncology Meeting in Phoenix, AZ
