GRAND ROUNDS: Please note that the next Surgery Grand Rounds lecture is this Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 at 7:30 AM in Smilow 1st Floor Seminar Room. Dr. Charles Stolar, Director, Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York Presbyterian - Columbia Campus will present on "Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia- Infants Becoming Adolescents . " All Surgery Faculty and Residents are strongly encouraged to attend. Please be on time.

END OF YEAR PARTY: The end of the year party for our 2009 graduating Chief Residents and Fellows will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at the Tribeca Rooftop located at 2 Desbrosses Street (between Hudson & Greenwich Street). PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Keith Heller gave Surgical Grand Rounds at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on "The Treatment of Thyroid Cancer: Too Much or Not Enough".

Dr. Keith Heller also spoke on "Primary Hyperparathyroidism with Undetectable PTH" at the annual meeting of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons in Madison, WI.

Dr. Thomas Riles gave three talks at the symposium, Innovations and Practical Applications in Vascular Surgery, put on by Columbia and Cornell on May 15. They were:
1. When is Stenting Justified in Asymptomatic Carotid Patients
2. Strategies to Improve Results of Carotid Endarterectomy
3. Timing of Carotid Intervention after TIA and CVA

Dr. Harvey Moore was an invited moderator for the Research Forum session of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons annual meeting in Hollywood Florida, May 2-6.

Dr. Harvey Moore also had a poster presentation at the meeting:

Dr. George Miller gave a grand rounds talk last week at NYU Division of Gastroenterology Grand Rounds on "Surgical Management of Cancers of the Biliary Tree."

Dr. Umut Sarpel had a paper published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology entitled "Outcome for Patients Treated with Laparoscopic Versus Open Resection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Case-Matched Analysis." Annals of Surgical Oncology: Volume 16, Issue 6 (2009), Page 1572

Dr. Anathea Powell gave an oral presentation at the recent annual meeting of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons in Madison, Wisconsin entitled: Reoperation for Parathyroid Adenoma, A Contemporary Experience, a review of the NIH experience with reoperation from 1996 to 2008 (senior author Steven Libutti).
