END OF YEAR PARTY: The end of the year party for our 2009 graduating Chief Residents and Fellows will be held on Wednesday, June 16th at the Tribeca Rooftop located at 2 Desbrosses Street (between Hudson & Greenwich Street). Faculty and residents should RSVP to Tracy via email at Tracy.Henry@nyumc.org or via phone at 263-2225 by May 29th. The party will be from 7-11pm.

PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:  
Dr. Kepal Patel had a Book chapter 14, "Molecular Advances in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Thyroid Cancer", Thyroid and Parathyroid Diseases Medical and Surgical Management, Thieme Publishers, 2009.

Dr. Mark Hochberg, Dr. Russell Berman and Carolyn Seib (4th year NYU student) presented two papers 1) teaching the competencies of professionalism and communication skills and 2) understanding the principles of surgical malpractice at the Association for Surgical Education last week in Salt Lake City Utah.

1) Can Professionalism be Taught? - Finally there is Evidence - Mark S. Hochberg, M.D. Adina Kalet, M.D., M.P.H., Sondra Zabar, M.D., Elizabeth Kachur, PhD., Colleen Gillespie,  Ph.D., and Russell S. Berman, M.D.

2) Surgical Malpractice in an Academic Medical Center: How Extensive is it and Can its Avoidance be Taught? D. Seib, B.A., Russell S. Berman, M.D., H. Leon Pachter, M.D. and Mark S. Hochberg, M.D

Dr. Mustafa Hussain had a paper published last month in Cancer Research entitled "Tobacco Smoke Induces Polycomb-Mediated Repression of Dickkopf-1 in Lung Cancer Cells" 2009 Apr 15;69(8):3570-8. Epub 2009 Apr 7.

Dr. Phuong Nguyen presented at the Wound Healing Society 19th Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas last week on: "Mediators of Increased Apoptosis in Stressed Diabetic Fibroblasts:  p53 Control of Bax and Bcl-2" which also won the Young Investigator Award prize.

Varjabedian, J. Wagner, J.W. Lee, E.H. Davidson, I.D. Haberman, O.D.  Cohen, S.M. Warren, J.P. Levine, and P.B. Saadeh

Dr. Robert Allen (also starting as a resident here in the integrated Plastics program) presented a paper entitled "Fat Grafting for the Treatment of Murine Radiation Skin Damage" which won a Travel Award, given to the top 16 papers at this meeting.
