GRAND ROUNDS: The next Department of Surgery Grand Rounds is scheduled for this Wednesday, October 21st at 7:30am in Smillow Seminar Room, 1st Floor. Dr. Jennifer B. Ogilvie will present on "The Adrenal Incidentaloma and Minimally Invasive Approaches to Adrenalectomy." All surgical faculty and residents are strongly encouraged to attend. Please mark your calendars of this date.
FACULTY MEETING: Please note that the next Departmental Faculty meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 9th at 5 PM in Smilow 1st Floor Multipurpose Room. All Surgery attendings are strongly encouraged to attend.
SAVE THE DATE- DEPARTMENT HOLIDAY PARTY: The Department's 2009 Holiday party will be held on Thursday, December 10th, 6:30- 10 pm at the Twenty Four Fifth, 5th avenue between 9th and 10th streets. Invitations will be sent out shortly.
IN THE NEWS: Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding was on CBS Early Show on October 15th for Early Gets Down 2 Size - Surgical Weight loss Success Story where she talked about the condition of her patient who lost 104 lbs after undergoing a lap band procedure.

PAPERS AND PRESENTATIONS:
Dr. Tom Maldonado recently gave talks at Mexican National Congress in Leon, Mexico:
1) Endovascular treatment of thoracic aortic dissection
2) Carotid Stenting: how I do it.
3) Carotid Filter occlusion: incidence and management
4) Endurant Stent Graft: new generation of EVAR
Dr. Steven Cohen presented at the 95th Annual American College of Surgeons meeting last week. He had a video presentation entitled "Innovative Approach to Resection of a Type III Choledochal Cyst."
Dr. Elliot Brill presented a talk at ACS and was awarded the Resident/Fellow Excellence in Research Award:
Elliott Brill, Mariana Lagos-Quintana, Christina Angeles, Ryan Gobble, Nick Socci, Penelope Decarolis, Rachael O'Connor, TomTuschl, Sam Singer. miRNA Profiling of Liposarcoma Identifies Distinct Subtypes and Potential Therapuetic Targets.
Dr. Phuong Nguyen presented a couple of talks in the surgical forum at the 95th annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons in Chicago:
1) "Mechanisms of improved diabetic wound healing achieved with topical silencing of p53"
2) "Smad3 is a regulator of MMP-2"
Dr. Michael Golinko presented four videos at the ACS on surgical technique for venous ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and Pressure ulcer debridement emphasizing regenerative medicine and the respective molecular biology.
Dr. Golinko also had a paper publish in Wound Repair and Regeneration entitled:
"Preliminary development of a diabetic foot ulcer database from a wound electronic medical record: A tool to decrease limb amputations."
