GRAND ROUNDS: The next Surgery Grand Rounds lecture will be Tomorrow, Wednesday February 18, 2009 at 7:30 AM in Smilow 1st Floor Seminar Room. Dr. Patricia O'Neill, Co-Director of Trauma Surgery and Critical Care at Kings County Hospital Center will speak on "Blast Injuries: Are you prepared?"

Dr. Evan Nadler presented the following 4 abstracts at the 4th Annual Academic Surgical Congress:
1) Finkelstein J, Stamell E, Zilbert N, Ginsburg HB, Nadler EP. Health Care Disparities in Infants: Pyloric Stenosis Outcomes Stratified by Socioeconomic Status.
2) Vazzana A, Youn HA, Ren CJ, Fielding GA, Nadler EP. Behavioral and Social-Emotional Outcomes in Morbidly Obese Adolescents after Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding.
3) Nadler EP, Li X, Greco MA. Differential Expression of Mediators of Hepatic Fibrosis in Sick and Spontaneously Recovered Mice after Experimental Biliary Atresia.
4) Nadler EP, Nwomeh BC. Academic Needs in Developing Countries: A Survey of the West African College of Surgeons.
Dr. Kepal Patel was an invited speaker for the Southern California chapter of the ACS annual meeting. He presented "Molecular advances in thyroid cancer."
Dr. Harvey Moore had an invited critique published in Archives of Surgery entitled "Improvement of Survival With Response to Neoadjuvant Radiation Therapy for Rectal Cancer--Invited Critique", Archives of Surgery 2009; 144(2):134-5.
Dr. George Miller had an oral presentation at the Academic Surgical Congress in Fort Myers last week on "In States of Hepatic Cirrhosis, Liver Dendritic Cells Control the Hepatic Cytokine Milieu and Gain Enhanced Capacity to Stimulate Innate and Adaptive Immunity."
