WHITE COAT CEREMONY: Daniel F. Roses, M.D., Jules Leonard Whitehill Professor of Surgery and Oncology gave the keynote address at the White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2013 on August 28.

CONGRATULATIONS to Cristina Magallanes and Frank Colonna in Bariatric Surgery for successfully passing the Certified Bariatric Nurse ("CBN") Exam.

CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Tomer Avraham who was named the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation Basic Science Research Fellow for 2009-2010, a $50,000 fellowship.

GRAND ROUNDS: The first Department of Surgery Grand Rounds for the new academic year is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th at 7:15am in Schwartz Lecture Hall E. Dr. Richard Karl, Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Surgery, Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida will present on "What can the Operating Room learn from the Cockpit." All surgical faculty and residents are strongly encouraged to attend. Please mark your calendars of this date and please mark the new early time.

IN THE NEWS: Dr. Mark Adelman appeared live on September 3rd on Good Morning America to discuss a 15 minute procedure that can fix bulging, painful varicose veins.
