Message from Our Director

Welcome to the Mary Lea Johnson Richards Organ Transplant Center at NYU Langone Medical Center website.

A half-century after the first successful organ transplant — a living-donor kidney transplant from one brother to another — organ transplantation has become remarkably routine.

Nonetheless, transplanting an organ remains a technically demanding and serious enterprise. Success depends on a highly skilled and experienced team of transplant surgeons and nurses, supported by clinicians from as many as a dozen different specialties.

These ingredients can be found at the Mary Lea Johnson Richards Organ Transplant Center at NYU Langone Medical Center. One of the most successful programs of its kind, the NYULMC Organ Transplant Center reports graft and patient survival rates that are consistently among the best in the nation. We are known in the field, as pioneers in donor safety.

The NYULMC Transplant Center offers a full range of transplant services for patients suffering from life-threatening liver or kidney disease. In addition to organ transplants, we also specialize in “bridge-to-transplant” therapies, including ELAD and plasma exchange that help patients remain as healthy as possible until a transplant can be arranged.

Patient safety is a core value of our multi-disciplinary team, all specialists at the top of their field, and specialists in transplantation. We make every effort to meet the needs of our patients and their families — medical and surgical as well as psychosocial and financial — ensuring the best-possible outcomes. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from the initial consultation to surgery and postoperative follow-up.

We look forward to answering your questions and meeting your transplantation needs.
