About Us

The Division of Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine specializes in patients with non-healing, chronic wounds. These wounds cause suffering and are responsible for limb-loss, a diminished quality of life, and even death – particularly for those who are elderly, disabled or living with diabetes. By definition, they are physiologically impaired and delayed in healing. This can be a consequence of diabetes, venous reflux, prolonged pressure, infection, sickle cell disease and numerous other molecular and cellular impairments that are a subject of intensive research at our center.

It is our goal to prevent and treat these wounds, which are among the most common and serious medical problems faced by patients today. Some prevalent examples of chronic wounds are:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Pressure ulcers (i.e. bed sores)
  • Venous ulcers
  • Sickle cell ulcers

Under our innovative, comprehensive, and compassionate care system at NYU Langone Medical Center, our philosophy is that every wound can heal. Healing is not just a hope, it's the expectation.
